Organising our next big adventure

Some might say it’s a bit sad, but we feel that life becomes even more enjoyable when you can put some things into Notion or an Excel or Google Sheet, including planning our move abroad.

Over the course of this adventure, we’ll be sharing as much as possible with everyone to give as complete an insight into what goes into moving countries, from planning to costs and everything in between.

Our previous and current home, the entire process was managed in Google Sheets. Sheets is also how we make sure we pack everything when we go on holiday. It was how we manage our expenses and savings and it’s how we built our campervan. Having everything in one place is both comforting and time-saving. Especially if you work together, and want to check or find things if the other person is not around.

Recently, we have started to make the switch from Google Sheets to Notion. It is a wiki-like shared space that combines anything from text and images to Kanban Boards. If you pay for extra storage, it holds documents over 2MB as well. There are loads of useful templates available on their website and on the wider internet, from paid to free. There are templates to manage your budgets, organise your books, manage your veg garden and, well, think of it and it will exist somewhere.

Having used it for a while now, we can see this becoming our main tool to ‘manage our life’. While Google Sheets is simpler to manage finances etc. in a WYSIWYG way, Notion offers so much more than that. Just look at, for example, this vegetable garden management template by Andy. It’s not only comprehensive, but stylish as well. Which is a real bonus. At least to us.

On our Resources Page we will share any useful things that might be able to help others. From getting some realistic timeframes to costs, all the way to how to figuring out what you want and need from your next house. We will also share the details of our 2020-2021 Campervan Build here. This Google Sheet also includes all the purchase costs and links to the items as well.
