Since we moved, or even before, quite a few people asked: “are you going to start a YouTube channel!?” Our answer has always been ‘maybe’, with quite the lean towards ‘no’. It’s a lot of work, making videos, and we don’t consider ourselves to be the most interesting people to follow. Especially in our first two years here, there wasn’t a lot to report on, and watching us wait for all the paperwork to be finished wouldn’t make for the most compelling watch.
But, after moving, and more people asked about progress, what it looks like, what we’re planning, etc. we decided to take the plunge and start sharing (parts of) our journey on YouTube. Videos say a lot more than blogs, and make things a bit more tangible. We will continue to blog every two weeks or so as well with some general updates!
What can you expect if you ‘hit that subscribe button’ on Youtube?
A video every week is our goal. The first two videos are short intros, but from then on we will get into the more detailed stuff, like a house tour, tour of the land, and our first projects, plans, etc. I just finished editing the third video, and that one will be 20 minutes, where we take you all over the house to show you what we’re dealing with! That video will come out next week on Saturday the 18th of January, 9am GMT, 10am CET.
We are doing this mainly for family and friends and are not by any means professional film makers or editors. That means that, for the foreseeable future, the videos might look a bit amateurish, although we are doing our best to at least make it somewhat well-edited. But don’t expect far too polished things, because we’re also anything but polished!
We also feel it’s important to keep in mind we aren’t doing a very big ‘Portugal Ruin Renovation’ or anything, so it’s quite different from the other content coming out of Portugal / Spain where people are restoring homes way older than ours. Doesn’t mean the work will be easy, but… it’s different! Perhaps that’s our USP, who knows! There are quite a few 80s properties on the market in Portugal that will have similar renovation and improvement needs!
Finally, we both still work full-time. We will do and film what we can, but we don’t have the time to film every little bit. If we have a lunch break to spare, and we do some quick jobs, it’s likely we won’t be taking the time to move around a camera to capture every detail, but… we will try and share as many details as we can for those interested (and for our own archives as well!).
