The adventure begins!

This week we accepted an offer on our home! This means we can start the process of moving to Portugal in 2023. So, as I’m writing this blog, our dining table is filled with forms and two blazing laptops: we are getting all the admin ready to start the hell-ish process that is selling a home in the UK.

When the estate agent visited us early October, they told us the average time to get an acceptable offer was around 45 days. However, with all the financial and political stuff going on in the UK, we had to take all of that with quite a few bags of salt.

Still, 41 days later we received an offer that wasn’t insanely low-ball. We thought about our goals, and started negotiations. 43 days later we came to an agreement. It was proper ‘Location Location Location’ or ‘Place in the Sun’ drama stuff.

Our negotiator went back and forth with our potential buyer putting us on hold in between offers and counter offers. It was really exciting, obviously.

When we came to an acceptable offer and we said yes, the first thing we did was… go back to work, as all this happened on a Wednesday around 11am.

From this weekend on we’ll be spending most weekends working on the move. From filling out endless forms, requesting quotes, keeping our fingers crossed the buyers won’t pull out, and finding a place to live in Portugal and finding language tutors so we can start with that as soon as possible as well.

So, this is also the start of our weekly update blog! Every Sunday, we’ll share where we are with things. The highs, the lows, the boring stuff, and everything in between. Any useful materials and resources we create or come across made by others we’ll share (and credit where it’s due, of course!).
