Not the most interesting or long step of the whole van build, but worth mentioning as it’s something that makes a huge difference to the experience when driving the van.
There are various different kinds of material that you can use for sound deadening of a van.
For cars, and some people, cover the entire van/bodywork with the stuff, but for us it was mostly to cut out the vibration.
After finishing, as soon as we turned on the engine, and compared it with the sound before, it made a significant difference. And there was still floor, roof and and wall insulation to come of course as well.
Those small silver patches are all that’s needed to significantly reduce the noise that the van produces through vibration when driving.
Having said that it is rather an easy small task that won’t take up a lot of space on this page, it really is a gritty task.
With a small hard roller, you have to flatten the small beads that look a bit like the protective bubble plastic, out after sticking it onto the bodywork.
And that, people, is painful. Just thinking about it brings back the cramp in our hands and the slow progress we made. Sure, we did get it done in a day, but it was a Very. Long. Day.
